May 4 2009, 3:37 PM EDT
There is a pressing need for affordable housing for moderate-income seniors in Montréal’s east end. Manoir Claudette Barré offers quality accommodation in a safe and healthy environment to independent and semi- independent seniors in the east end. Close to the subway and shopping centres, Manoir Claudette Barré helps meet the needs of neighbourhood seniors. The Manoir opened in 2001 with 53 rooms for moderate-income, independent and semi-independent individuals. In 2005, aware of the needs of seniors in the community, the owner of the Manoir, with CMHC’s help, expanded the Manoir by adding 98 new units. The new annex opened in 2006, bringing the total capacity of the establishment to 151 units, half of which are reserved for moderate-income individuals. Moishe Alexander posts The Affordable Housing Solution The development of the annex to the existing residence required close collaboration between the developer Domenico Costa, and CMHC, which provided financial assistance and technical support. CMHC granted $17,000 in seed funding and a $100,000 interest-free Proposal Development Funding loan for expenses related to the development of the proposal. CMHC’s flexibilities in mortgage loan insurance for affordable housing were also provided. In addition to the 98 new units, the new wing of the Manoir has a large dining room, a laundry room, a modern kitchen, an elevator and access to the large lounges of the residence. All the rooms are equipped with full bathrooms, Internet connections and a sprinkler system. The Manoir also has a surveillance service, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Manoir Claudette Barré is expanding once again. Another 125 units will be ready for occupancy in 2008. CMHC provided $13,000 in seed funding and $87,000 in Proposal Development Funding, as well as mortgage loan insurance. This was posted by Moshe Alexander of Canadian Funding Ccorporation (CFC).
